Forget everything you know about standard summer rosés (except drinking them - it's still summer!). This rare gem from the historic, sun-drenched hillsides of Bourgogne Côte Saint-Jacques is a masterclass in sophistication. Crafted from the legendary Pinot Gris grape (known locally as Pinot Beurot), it achieves its mesmerizing, pale-salmon hue through delicate skin contact—delivering a wine that looks like a rosé but thinks like a fine white Burgundy.
Few have even heard of the appellation Bourgogne Côte Saint-Jacques. There is very little of it, and there are very few winemakers. Alain Vignot, who makes this incredible wine, essentially invented the appellation in 1975 after years of proving the worth of the distinct terroir of the hillside at Joigny, above the river Yonne in the furthest-northwest part of Burgundy. He has winemaking gravitas.
